From Airports to Asylums '09

Once again, I will be running my From Airports to Asylums course over the summer at Sussex, looking at place, memory, identity. It worked out pretty good last year, culminating in being thrown out of a derelict cement works. I hope to repeat that experience with my students this year. See below for an illustration of how well a selection of last year's students adapted to their environment.

I have also made a few changes to the course in an effort to make it more "accessible." This essentially means: less Heidegger. In his place, I have two new modules. One on ghosts (Sebald/J-Horror). The second on the uncanny (Ballard/Lovecraft). A full reading list can be found here. The course is open to all. Runs from 29 June - 24 July
